Our final term at Clydemuir Primary

I can't believe we have now reached the final term of this year 😊!  Time flies when you are having fun!  It might be our last term in primary 7 but it certainly wont be a quiet one.  We have a busy few months ahead of us!

LITERACY

Both classes will be doing a short novel study this term - P7a will be reading Parvana's Journey and P7b will be reading Once.  These books will be read in class with a focus on reading for enjoyment.  Our novel will also provide us with some opportunities for writing, art work and personal research.

We will continue with our spelling scheme for the next few weeks before doing some revision for our end of year spelling test.

Our writing lessons will continue with our assessments taking place within the next few weeks.  Both classes will be focusing on grammar and punctuation this term , in writing and in daily activities.

MATHS

We will be learning about algebra this term with a focus on number/function machines and simple equations.  Problem solving and money will also be a focus for some of our lessons before we spend some time doing revision for our test.

HEALTH & WELLBEING

Our focus for health this term will be sex education and relationships.  Miss Tulloch will be leading a parent's information morning on Friday 27th April.  This session will outline the lessons that your child will be taught during the next few weeks.

SCHOOL SHOW

It's that time of year again!  Our cast have now been selected and scripts were issued before the Easter holidays.  We have tried to ensure that every child that wanted a speaking part has one, however we will be encouraging all of the children in primary 7 to take part in the show, whether on stage, backstage, technicians or selling programmes on the night.  The children will start rehearsals this week and we are really looking forward to getting started.   Our afternoon performance for the whole school and for senior citizens will take place on Wednesday 30th May and our evening performance for parents and families will take place on Thursday 31st May.  Permission must be given for your child to take part in the evening performance.  Letters will be given out this week.

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION

Staff from Clydebank High School will be visiting the children over the next few weeks to deliver lessons as well as giving them the opportunity to take part in a small project with the English department.  The dates for the visit to high school will be Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th May.  The children will receive their timetables before then and will make their own way to and from the high school.  Both Mrs Barclay and I will be there at some point during the 2 days, however the children will be attending classes as they will do in August.

INFORMATION FOR LEAVERS

Primary 7 will be organising some fundraising activities over the next few weeks to raise money for their leavers' party.  This includes face painting and nail painting around the school every Friday afternoon and selling raffle tickets in classes and at our assemblies.  Our aim is to raise enough money to ensure that the children don't have to pay anything for their leavers' party.  Our raffle tickets will be sold at 50p per ticket or £2 a strip.  We have one big prize which is a summer hamper.  All items have been donated by Clydemuir staff.  This includes wine, prosecco, chocolates, picnic set, picnic blanket, Heads of Ayr voucher, iplay voucher and many more!  Tickets will be on sale from Monday 23rd April.

We will also be hosting a fun day on Tuesday 12th June for the whole school.  Each class will be allocated a time to come to the fun day which our p7's will be leading.  All money raised on the day will go towards our party.  This fun day has always been successful in previous years.  We would be grateful for any donations of home baking that could be sold on the day.  Always a popular stall!

Our leavers' party will take place on Tuesday 26th June in the Napier Hall in Old Kilpatrick.  This will be from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.  This will be a very special, emotional night for the children and I know that many of them are already discussing outfits, fake tan etc!  Food will be provided for the children and the whole evening will be paid for with the money that we raise.

Wednesday 27th June will be the day of our leavers' assembly so time to get the tissues out!  The children will be working hard after their show to produce a memorable assembly for the whole school and for families.  This will start at 9.30am.  During this assembly, the children will be presented with their high school ties, from the PTA.

Finally, 'Class of 2018' hoodies will shortly be on sale.  Thank you to Joanne Richardson (Rosie's mum) who is going to help organise this for us.  There is no pressure for everyone to buy these but order forms will be given out to children within the next week or so.  Hoodies and t-shirts are available with the school name and the name of every p7 child on it.  A nice keepsake for them!  I have an example of the hoodie in my class if anyone would like to see it before ordering.  The children are allowed to wear these to and from school when they receive them, however we would ask that they are not worn in class until the final 2 weeks of term.

Sorry for the information overload, but as I said, it is a busy term for us here at Clydemuir!  I am sure that I have mentioned everything but will post any further updates on the blog, as well as on the school Twitter page.  Any questions, please don't hesitate to leave a comment or send me an email.

Thank you
Mrs McBeth
